Mimosa pudica Linn. (Mimosa pudica Linn.) : It is a perennial herb or subshrub of the leguminous family. It is named Mimosa because its leaves respond to heat and light and close immediately when touched by external forces. Shaped like pompoms. After flowering pods, fruit is oblate. Leaves for feather - shaped compound leaves alternate, palmate arrangement. Flowering after midsummer, head oblong, 2-3 borne in leaf axils. Flowers are white, pink, calyx bell-shaped, with 8 tiny calyx teeth, petals 4-lobed, four stamens, ovary glabrous. Pod flat, 1 seed per pod segment, shedding at maturity. The flowering period is 9 months.
