Benzoyl chloride:An organic compound with the formula C7H5ClO that is a colorless smoky liquid soluble in ether, chloroform, benzene, and carbon disulfide. Generally used as dye intermediates, initiators, ultraviolet absorbers, rubber and plastic additives, medicine and so on.
Use
Benzoyl chloride is a very important acylation reagent. In the field of drug synthesis, it can react with compounds containing active hydrogen such as amino and hydroxyl groups.
In fragrance synthesis, benzoyl chloride can react with alcohols to form esters.
