Introduction

Diosmin is a flavone, a member of the flavonoid family. Diosmin aglycone is diosmetin. It can be found in Teucrium gnaphalodes, a plant endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. Diosmin is currently a prescription medication in some European countries (under the Dio-PP, Venotec, Daflon etc. tradenames), and is sold as a nutritional supplement in the United States.

Main functions

1.Diosmin extract contributes to the integrity of the blood vessels.
2.Diosmin extract reduced cholesterol and blood pressure in rats.
3.In a mouse study, large doses of the glucoside hesperidin decreased bone density loss.
4.Another animal study showed protective effects against sepsis.
5.Diosmin extract has anti-inflammatory effects.
6.Diosmin extract is also a potential sedative.

Application:
