Eu:CaF2
Rare earth elements are prone to form clusters in CaF2 crystals, which is beneficial for reducing doping concentration and maintaining energy transfer between ions. Activated calcium fluoride (Eu: CaF2), as one of the phosphors with effective excitation in the near ultraviolet range, is an inert and transparent material with various properties, making it attractive as a scintillator in radiation detection systems. Its average light output is 24000 photons * MeV-1, and its refractive index is similar to that of many photomultiplier tube windows and optocoupler compounds. Therefore, high light collection efficiency can often be achieved. In addition, the maximum fluorescence emission wavelength emitted by Eu: CaF2 is 435 nm, which is very compatible with the photocathode photomultiplier tube. In addition, Eu: CaF2 has non hygroscopicity and fracture resistance, making it suitable for use in relatively harsh environmental conditions.
