Automotive urea (AdBlue) is an exhaust gas reduction substance used in diesel vehicles. It is composed of aqueous solution containing 32.5% high purity urea through selective catalytic reduction.
The importance of AdBlue:Environmental standards are increasingly stricter for automotive manufacturers due to environmental problems. Euro 6 emissions standards came into effect in 2016 and greatly affect diesel engines. To comply with the new regulations, automotive manufacturers have to focus on reducing harmful nitrogen-oxide emissions.
The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology is an effective method of getting a diesel engine to meet the Euro 6 standard. It is used by many automotive manufacturers: Audi, BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes. The SCR system injects a small amount of Urea solution (AdBlue) into the vehicle exhaust. Mercedes BlueTEC and Citroen BlueHDi all feature SCR technology in combination with AdBlue.
