Product Description

Automotive grade urea (AGU) is a white, solid, cylindrical pellet that is used to make diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). DEF is a clear, non-toxic, non-polluting solution that reduces air pollution from diesel engines. It is made up of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water.

AGU is manufactured by compressing pure urea crystals. It is an organic amide molecule that contains 46% nitrogen. When heated, urea turns to ammonia.

AGU is used in a variety of industries, including agriculture as a fertilizer. It has a much higher purity than its agricultural counterpart.

Technical grade urea is not suitable for DEF because it may damage the catalytic converter silencer.

Why urea is used in SCR instead of ammonia?

One of the technologies that act on the generated NO_x is the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) which abates the NO_x into nitrogen and water by introducing ammonia prior to the catalyst. For safety and toxicological reasons, a urea water solution (UWS) is preferred instead of directly ammonia as a reducing agent.
