Walk in chiller or freezer is mainly composed of storage room and refrigeration unit. The storage room is made of sandwich panels which has good thermal insulation. The refrigeration unit includes air cooler and condensing unit.
Normally, walk in chiller (freezer) shall be designed as per project requirements with full consideration of long term interest. The owner (investor) cares about initial equipment cost, operation cost and maintenance. A good solution of walk in chiller or freezer requests good work at below aspects.
- Figure out the requested cooling load.
- Confirm the thickness of sandwich panels, and select proper refrigeration system. The refrigeration system must be selected as per indoor room temperature and cooling load. Supposing the selected refrigeration unit has more much capacity than necessary, the owner shall have to pay more equipment cost and operation cost. On the other hand, if the select refrigeration unit could not provide enough cooling capacity, the storage volume or chilling volume shall be discounted.
- Good quality product.
- Good installation. Poor quality installation shall reduce the performance of refrigeration system, and even cause damage to compressor. For example, too much pressure drop in return gas line, oil return measurement in return gas line.
- Good machine commissioning. Crucial points include the adjustment of thermal expansion valve, the charge of refrigerant. Proper setting of thermal expansion valve, defrosting and refrigerant charge volume shall assure the best performance of refrigeration system. Maximum cooling capacity and lowest electric power consumption.

Refrigeration system includes air cooler and condensing unit. Normally, the condensing unit is made of compressor, oil separator, condenser, liquid receiver, filter, sight glass, solenoid, gas-liquid separator, pressure switches, pressure gauges.
The expansion valve and electrical box with control parts need to be set up on site.
