Pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, is a water-soluble vitamin. It is one of the essential vitamins for the human body. Animals need pantothenic acid to synthesize coenzyme A, which is a necessary substance for animals to metabolize carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
The form of pantothenic acid used as a dietary supplement or animal feed ingredient is usually calcium pantothenate because it is chemically stable and thus has a longer product shelf life than sodium pantothenate and free pantothenic acid.
