Surface Tension: 32.0mN/m at 25°C
Solubility: soluble in water and toluene, miscible in methanol and ether.
Main Uses: It is the most ideal solvent for many flavours and fragrances and cosmetics.
Cosmetics: It is the ideal solvent for many flavour and fragrance and cosmetic applications, with excellent water, oil and hydrocarbon co-solubility, a mild odour, minimal skin irritation and low toxicity. In perfumery, over 50 per cent of dipropylene glycol is used, while in some other applications it is generally used at less than 10 per cent by weight. Some specific product applications include hair curling solutions, skin cleansers (cold creams, shower gels, bath and body lotions), deodorants, face, hand and body skin care products, moisturising skin care products and lip balms.
Resin: It has a place in unsaturated and saturated resins, and the resins it produces have superior softness and resistance to cracking and weathering.
Solvent: It can be used as a solvent for cellulose acetate, cellulose nitrate, shellac varnish and castor oil.
Others: It can also be used to make plasticisers, fumigants, synthetic detergents, and so on.
