Rhamnolipid biosurfactant is a secondary metabolite secreted by microorganisms under certain culture conditions, it is an anionic surfactant with amphipathy (hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity).
Rhamnolipid could decrease the surface tension of water significantly (to 25 to 40mN/m), the CMC is 10-100 times(5-380mg/L)) lower than tranditional surfactants, it also could decrease the interface tension of oil and water to <1 dyne/cm, with a variety of functions such as emulsification, demulsification, defoaming, washing, dispersion and flocculation, anti-static and lubrication, and excellent matching performance with other surfactant compounding effect doubled. Compared with chemical surfactants, Rhamnolipid not only have superior surface activity, interface activity, emulsification and solubility, but also have the advantages of non-toxic, easy to degrade, minimally affected by temperature and PH value. It can be widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetics, personal care, environmental bioremediation, petroleum industry, household and industrial cleaning, food and beverage processing, agriculture and horticulture and other industries.
