Pelton Turbine/Hydro Turbine/Water Turbine

L. A Pelton invented the Pelton turbine (also known as the free-jet turbine, or the Pelton wheel) in 1880. It is a type of impulse turbine. In a Pelton turbine, water passes through nozzles and strikes buckets or cups arranged near a runner. This in turn causes the runner to rotate, thus producing mechanical energy. The runner is fixed on a shaft, and the motion of the turbine is transmitted by the shaft to a generator. 

Their compact structure, small size, high efficency, and lesser need for investments, make them the best choice for high head and small discharge hydraulic power resources. Pelton turbines generally have lesser production cost compared to Francis and Kaplan turbine.
