Portal Crane is named for its portal base.This kind of crane is mostly used in shipyards, wharfs, loading and unloading places.The revolving part of the crane is mounted on the portal base.The portal base is actually the load-bearing part of the crane.
Traveling mechanism is installed under the portal base, which can travel on the track set on the ground (Fixed Portal Crane is fixed on the ground, not include traveling mechanism). The rotating part is equipped with a boom and lifting, rotating and luffing mechanism. Four mechanism work together to complete the installation of equipment or hull segments, or to carry out cargo loading and unloading.
It can be divided into three categories according to its purpose:
1.Gantry crane for loading and unloading: mainly used in ports and open storage yards, using grab buckets or hooks for loading and unloading. The lifting capacity generally does not exceed 25 tons and does not vary with the amplitude.
2.Shipbuilding gantry crane: mainly used for ship slipways, floating docks, and installation sites, for lifting work such as hull splicing and equipment installation, using hooks as lifting tools.
3.Portal crane for construction and installation: mainly used in hydropower stations for dam pouring, equipment and prefabricated component lifting, etc., generally using lifting hooks.
