Three-way catalysis refers to the catalysis of converting harmful gases such as CO, HC and NOx from automobile exhaust into harmless carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen through oxidation and reduction. The three-way catalytic converter is mainly used. The carrier part of the three-way catalytic converter is a piece of porous ceramic material, which is installed in a special exhaust pipe. It is called a carrier because it does not participate in the catalytic reaction itself, but is covered with a layer of precious metals such as platinum, rhodium, and palladium. It is the most important external purification device installed in the automobile exhaust system.

The purification process of the three-way catalyst is as follows:
2. Pour the melted mixture into the container, and after cooling, take out the metal block (including platinum, rhodium, palladium and other metals)
3. Use a pulverizing furnace to make the metal block into powder
The above 3 steps are to obtain the precious metal in the three-way catalyst by smelting, and then start the purification step
4. First use solvent to remove other metals in the powder
5. Then metal palladium is obtained by extraction
6. Platinum is then obtained by hydrolysis
7. Rhodium obtained by precipitation
8. Obtain pure rhodium through hydrogen reduction
