Product Description
A Pumped Storage Hydropower (PSH) station, specifically the pump and turbine combined type, is a type of hydroelectric power plant that uses an innovative method to store and generate energy. At the core of this operation are two primary components: the pump and the turbine, which, in this type, are integrated into a single system.
In regular operation, the system works in two phases: pumping and generation. During off-peak periods or when there is excess energy production from other sources (e.g., wind, solar), the electric pump is used to transport water from a lower reservoir to an upper one. This action stores potential energy in the water, effectively converting the surplus electricity into gravitational potential energy.
Then, during periods of high electricity demand, the system reverses its operation. The stored water in the upper reservoir is released, flowing down through the combined pump-turbine unit, acting like a traditional hydropower plant. As the water flows, it spins the turbine, which then drives the generator to produce electricity that is sent to the grid.
