There are 3 kind of hydraulic filters:
Suction filters are usually your"rock and rag"" catchers that you putin a tank to filter out any bolts or rags that may have dropped in thereservoir.
Pressure filters come highly recommended because they are placedafter your pump, so if the pump was to fail, all of the componentsdownstream would still be protected.
Return filters are important because they clean the oil before it returnsto your hydraulic reservoir and therefore keep your reservoir cleanand free from dirt particles.
