Solubility: It is highly soluble in water. At 10ºC, the solubility in water is 92.4 g/100 mL. It is also soluble in ethanol and slightly soluble in pyridine.
Uses
Metal Preparation: It is an important raw material for the preparation of samarium metal, and samarium metal has important applications in the field of magnets.
Flux: Anhydrous samarium chloride is a flux for sodium chloride and calcium chloride, which can reduce their melting points and improve their melting characteristics.
Organic Synthesis: It is used to prepare some organometallic compounds of samarium, such as bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)alkylsamarium(III). These compounds can be used as catalysts or reagents in organic synthesis reactions.
Catalyst: It can be used as a catalyst for olefin hydrogenation and hydrosilylation, which can promote these reactions and improve the reaction efficiency and selectivity.
