Jatrorrhizinechloride is an alkaloid isolated from Coptis chinensis. It has neuroprotective, antibacterial, antimalarial and antioxidant activities. Jatrorrhizinechloride is an effective inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) (icchemicalbook 50 = 872nm) with oral activity, with a selectivity of 115 times to BuChE. Jatrorrhizinechloride reduces serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) uptake by inhibiting the activity of uptake-2 transporter.
