Tetrahydrothiophene, also known as thiophenane (THT), is mainly used as the odorant of urban gas, and is a natural gas odorant widely used in the world at present. Tetrahydrothiophene is not corrosive to gas equipment, transportation pipeline gaskets and other materials, and will not habitually passivate human olfaction. Therefore, it is used as a leakage warning agent for urban gas, natural gas and other gaseous fuels, and is added to gaseous fuels in small quantities, eliminating Ethanethiol and other odorants used previously.
