DB-100 Tear Switch - Belt Tear Protection
In the event of damage to the belt due to tearing, poking, damage at the twisted knot or sharp objects protruding from the belt, the tear switch can provide an interlock signal to the monitor or shut down the conveyor to cause further damage. Rip switches should be mounted in pairs on both sides of the belt, connected by two sections of wire rope (which are sheathed in a polyethylene jacket). One end of the rope is fixed to a support bracket and the other end is attached to a spring-loaded ball on the rip switch. The two sections of rope form a closed loop under the belt in line with the belt groove pattern. When an object pokes through or tears the belt hanging down and sweeps down one or both of the steel ropes, the spring-loaded ball is pulled out of its base, causing the two microswitches to signal an alarm or turn off the conveyor.
