Shunt is an instrument for measuring DC current, which is made according to the principle that a voltage is generated across a resistor when a DC current passes through it.
Shunts are generally used as fixed-value low-resistance for expanding the current range. Usually connected in parallel with the moving coil of an ammeter or galvanometer.
