R22 is an HCFC refrigerant used for application in residential air conditioning and low and medium temperature commercial refrigeration, including food services, supermarket showcases, food storage and processing, and refrigerated transport systems.
R22 is very efficient in low and medium temperature applications, but it damages the ozone layer. That is why, following the Montreal Protocol, the R22 is being gradually replaced. Its main replacement is the R410A or the MO99.
