Monoethanolamine is a colourless viscous liquid with an ammonia odour. It can form salts with inorganic and organic acids and esters with acid anhydrides. The hydrogen atom in its amino group can be replaced by acyl halide and haloalkanes. Widely used in surfactants, synthetic resins and fibres, polyurethane industry, pharmaceuticals and printing and dyeing industries.
