Connect the Urine Bag:Securely attach the threaded joint of the urine pipe to the urine collection bag, ensuring that the connection is tight to prevent any leakage.
Hanging the Urine Bag:Suspend the urine collection bag below the bed or in any position lower than the bladder level using a hanging nylon rope or other securing device.
Open the Urination Switch:Activate the urination switch on the urine collection bag to allow a smooth flow of urine into the bag.
Discharge of Urine:When the urine bag is full, first wash your hands, then cleanse the bag's mouth with an alcohol cotton ball. Open the bag to discharge urine and, once emptied, close and clean the mouth again with an alcohol cotton ball to prevent infections.
Precautions for Using Urine Bags
Keep the Urine Bag Below Bladder Level:Ensure that the urine bag remains below the bladder level to prevent urine reflux and avoid infections.
Increase Water Intake:It is recommended to drink more than 1500ml of water daily to promote urine production and discharge, reducing the risk of infection and blockage.
Maintain Cleanliness:Daily use of normal saline and iodophor for disinfecting the urethral opening and other related areas is advised to keep them clean and dry, thereby minimizing bacterial growth.
Regularly Change the Urine Bag:Change the urine bag as per its material and doctor's recommendations to prevent bacterial growth and infection.
Monitor Urine Volume:When the urine bag contains more than 700ml of urine, it should be emptied promptly to avoid discomfort or potential infection.
Secure the Urine Bag:Ensure that the urine bag is properly secured to avoid excessive pulling or twisting that could damage the urethral mucosa.
