DLC coating, full name Diamond-Like Carbon coating, is a special surface coating with diamond-like properties, such as high hardness, smoothness and chemical inertness. The development of DLC coating has gone through the stages from the first generation of TiN to the second generation of TiCN, TiC, the third generation of DLC, and finally the fourth generation of cubic boron nitride. In the 1970s, German scientists used ion beam deposition to deposit single-valent carbon ions onto a substrate at room temperature to produce DLC thin films.
