Valve stem seal is a kind of oil seal, which is generally made by co-vulcanization of outer frame and fluoroelastomer. A self-tightening spring or steel wire is installed at the diameter of the oil seal to seal the valve guide rod of the engine.
The valve oil seal can prevent oil from entering the intake and exhaust pipes, avoid oil loss, prevent the mixture of gasoline and air and exhaust gas from leaking, and prevent engine oil from entering the combustion chamber. The valve oil seal is one of the important parts of the engine valve group. It is in contact with gasoline and engine oil at high temperatures. Therefore, it is necessary to use materials with excellent heat resistance and oil resistance, generally made of fluorine rubber.

Installation and replacement of valve oil seal

(1) Removal steps of valve stem oil seal:
Remove the camshaft and hydraulic tappets and store them face down. Please note that the tappets are not interchangeable during operation. Use spark plug wrench 3122B to disassemble the spark plug, adjust the piston of the corresponding cylinder to the top dead center, and screw the pressure hose VW653/3 into the spark plug threaded hole.
Install the spring compression tool 3362 on the cylinder head with bolts, as shown in Figure 1. Adjust the relevant valve to the correct position, and then connect the pressure hose to the air compressor (air pressure at least 600kPa). Use the threaded mandrel and thrust piece to press down the valve spring and remove the spring.

The valve lock block can be removed by tapping on the valve spring seat. Use tool 3364 to pull out the valve stem oil seal, as shown in Figure 2.
(2) Installation of valve stem oil seal.

Install the plastic sleeve (A in Figure 3) on the valve stem to prevent damage to the new valve stem oil seal. Apply a layer of engine oil to the lip of the oil seal. Install the oil seal (B in Figure 3) on the tool 3365, and then slowly push it onto the valve guide. Special reminder: Before installing the intake and exhaust valves, a layer of engine oil must be applied to the valve stem.

If your car is slow to accelerate or the car is emitting blue smoke, then your valve oil seal is already aging. So what are the reasons for this series of problems? 
The first is the valve oil seal installation problem: for example, mixing in during installation, or foreign matter, dust in the pipeline, entering the seal and causing leakage; poor assembly causing seal damage and causing leakage; sealing installation direction wrong leading to leakage or uneven coating processing, The paint has entered the sealing layer.
The second is the selection of the seal: the gap is bitten due to excessive pressure, and then mixed with air, adiabatic compression causes seal burn; high-frequency reciprocating motion causes the seal to heat up and dry grinding; environmental dust causes abnormal wear of the seal ring; seal groove Rusting of the tank causes problems such as leakage.
The third problem is the design of the sealing equipment. This includes
1. Improper selection of materials for the guide and supporting parts damages the cylinder tube and piston rod
2. The gap of the friction pair is not suitable, causing the gap to squeeze out and bite
3. Improper lead angle of the thread at the end of the cylinder, piston and cylinder, damages the sealing ring
4. Improper sealing installation lead angle damages the sealing ring
5. The roughness of the sliding surface is inappropriate, and the sealing ring is worn
6. Uneven electroplating, holes on the surface through which the seal passes, scratches and wears the seal ring
7. The roughness of the sealing groove, especially the shaft sealing groove is not enough, and the sealing parts will be damaged by abrasion.
In the end, it may be the problem of the product itself, or the problem of sealed storage. The high temperature during transportation caused the deterioration and deterioration of the sealing material.
