Oxaliplatin, also known as oxaliplatin or oxaliplatin, is a platinum derivative used clinically to treat patients with colorectal cancer metastasis who have failed treatment with fluorouracil. It can be used alone or in combination with fluorouracil and is the third generation of new platinum based anti-tumor compounds after cisplatin and carboplatin. It is also the only platinum based drug with significant activity against colorectal cancer to date. The principle of action is to generate alkylated complexes that act on DNA, forming intra - and inter chain crosslinks to inhibit DNA synthesis and replication. It also has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of ovarian cancer and melanoma cell lines
In August 2002, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the anti-cancer drug oxaliplatin (Eloxatin) from Sanofi St. Treble for second-line treatment of metastatic colon cancer.
In January 2004, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially approved the first-line treatment of advanced colorectal cancer using the FOLFOX regimen, which combines oxaliplatin for injection with 5-fluorouracil (5FU) and folinic acid (LV).
The domestic market is currently mainly dominated by Sanofi Aventis (Lesadin); Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Aiheng); Jiangsu Nanjing Pharmaceutical Factory (Aobo) has a monopoly of three manufacturers, occupying over 85% of the domestic market share.
