Diflubenzuron works by inhibiting the enzyme chitinase in insects. Chitin is the main component of insect epidermis, and chitinase is responsible for synthesizing new chitin. By inhibiting this enzyme, Diflubenzuron stops the synthesis of chitin in the epidermis of larvae, eggs, and pupae, resulting in the insect's inability to molt properly and eventual death. After feeding, the pests will be cumulatively poisoned, because of the lack of chitin, the larvae can not form new epidermis, molting difficulties, pupation is blocked; adults are difficult to feather, egg laying; eggs can not develop normally, the hatching larvae epidermis lack of hardness and die.

Diflubenzuron is widely used in the control of a variety of crops and pests. Its main dosage forms include 20% suspension, 5%, 25%, 75% wettable powder and 5% emulsifiable concentrate. Applicable crops include apple, pear, peach, citrus and other fruit trees; corn, wheat, rice, cotton, peanuts and other grain, cotton and oil crops; cruciferous vegetables, eggplant and fruit vegetables, melons and other vegetables; tea trees, forests and other plants.
