Application
Guaiacol is widely used in industry. Guaiacol is commonly used to produce various spices, such as eugenol, vanillin, and artificial musk. Guaiacol is also widely used in medicine, as it can be used to synthesize benzenesulfonic acid guaiacol (Guaiacol Chemicalbook Potassium Sulfonate), as a local anesthetic or preservative, as well as to dispel phlegm and treat indigestion. Due to its reducibility, it is often added in small amounts as an antioxidant in cosmetics and often used together with synergists, metal ion chelators, etc.
