When landing the casing, the drill fluid has no resistance to float shoes. The pressure of circulating mud make the valve head down a displacement, the disc of valve rod's end will fall off automatically; after stop pumping,the valve press the valve seat upwards under the action of spring, the float valve becomes one-way valve. So that can pump the drilling fluid and cement slurry into it from up to down, but the fluid in the casing or outside casing annulus can't be return to prevent from back flow.
Float shoes are usually made of special materials to ensure that they have good corrosion and wear resistance. The shoe has either a single or double flow valve (depending on the model), which is made of drillable material to ensure smooth drilling in subsequent drilling operations. The exterior of the float shoe is designed to be threaded or otherwise connected for connection with casing and other cementing tools.
The main function of the float shoe is to prevent the backflow of the cement slurry during the injection process and ensure that the cement slurry can flow into the annular space along the predetermined path.The shoe can also withstand pressure to prevent leakage due to high pressure during cementing operations.In some models, the float shoe is also designed with a bottom guide to guide the cement slurry correctly into the ring space.
