Celecoxib is a selective Cox-2(cyclooxygenase-2) inhibitor (IC50 of 40 nM). Celecoxib shows low sensitivity against Cox-1 (IC50 of 15 μM). Celecoxib shows an anti-proliferative effect on nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cell lines including HNE1 (IC50of 32.86 μM) and CNE1-LMP1 (IC50 of 61.31 μM).
Celecoxib is a COX-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to treat the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute pain in adults, painful menstruation, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in people .
Celecoxib is used for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute pain, musculoskeletal pain, painful menstruation, ankylosing spondylitis, and to reduce the number of colon and rectal polyps in people with familial adenomatous polyposis.It may also be used in children with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis who are older than two years of age and weigh more than 10 kg (22 lb).
For postoperative pain, it is more or less equal to ibuprofen. For pain relief, it is similar to paracetamol (acetaminophen).And in osteoarthritis, acetaminophen is the first line treatment.In knee and hip osteoarthritis, acetaminophen may be ineffective.
