Chromic Catgut is a biologic absorbable suture obtained from sheep gut submucosa.
Its threads are treated whit chromic salts to prolong the absorption time of the
suture.Chromic Catgut is absorbed by the enzymatic reaction (phagocytosis).
A tissue reaction may be observed before organic materials are completely
absorbed.complete mass absorption is approximately in 70 days.
The thread keeps its tensile strength between 14 and 21 days.
When used in infected tissue or in tissue with increased levels of proteolytic enzymes (e.g.stomach, cervix, and vagina)it is more quickly absorbed. Inclosed liquid isopropyl alcohol ,
it can play the role of anticorrosion and soften the line.
This suture is sterilized by gamma radiation and is available in brown color.
