Sulfoxamycin is a broad spectrum bacteriostatic agent. It can inhibit most gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In particular, it has strong effects on gram-negative bacilli, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Typhoid bacillus, aerobacter, Klebsiella, Pasteurella, brucella, dysentery and so on. Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus anthracis, Chemicalbook staphylococcus, corynebacterium, pneumococcus, streptococcus, enterococcus and actinomyces were also sensitive to it. But not as effective as penicillin and tetracycline against gram-positive bacteria. It also has effects on leptospirosis, some mycoforms, some chlamydia and Rickettsia. Bacteria had complete cross-resistance to partial cross-resistance to tetracycline.
It is mainly used for the treatment of respiratory, urinary, liver and bile, typhoid and other intestinal surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and ent infections, especially for mild and moderate infections
